HONOLULU, HI — The Honolulu Ocean Safety Department (HOSD) is announcing upcoming registration dates and physical performance examinations for individuals interested in becoming part-time, on-call contract beach lifeguards.
Registration for the Beach Lifeguard Recruitment will take place on May 15 and May 16, 2026, at the Ocean Safety Training Center located at Ala Moana Beach Park, behind Lifeguard Tower 1B. Registration hours are 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m., and no exceptions will be made outside of this timeframe. All required documents must be submitted at the time of registration.
Applicants must meet the following minimum requirements
• Possess a valid driver’s license
• Provide a high school diploma, GED, or proof of high school completion
• Provide proof of completion of:
o American Red Cross Lifeguard Training
o Basic First Aid certification
o CPR for the Professional Rescuer (American Red Cross) or Basic Life Support (American Heart Association)
Only applicants who complete registration on the specified dates will be eligible to participate in the physical performance examination.
The physical performance exams will be conducted on:
• Friday, May 22, 2026
• Saturday, May 23, 2026
Participants must be pre-registered to take part in the exam. The physical test is a rigorous assessment designed to evaluate a candidate’s fitness and readiness for ocean rescue duties. The timed events include:
Candidates who successfully pass the physical performance examination will be required to complete a written exam. Final interviews for qualified candidates will be held on May 26, 2026, and attendance is mandatory to remain in consideration for employment.
